I'm going to take it to work on monday and weld up the spiders before we go play in the dunes in a couple weeks...

I wasn't quite sure what to do since I've never had to pull it this far apart but I think I'm on the right track...here's what I got done this morning...

Started by yanking the axle shafts...

Then pulled the cover...

I used a punch and marked where everything lined up...

Then pulled the caps off... I left the clips that hold the adjuster nuts in place attached...

I spun the adjuster nuts one complete rotation and then pulled the carrier out...

Up on the bench I cleaned it up a little bit and sprayed out the housing with brake parts cleaner...

I hit all the bolts holding the ring gear on with an impact...

Then split it apart...

I'm not sure if it was necessary but I also punched a few marks in the ring gear and both sides of the carrier so when I put it back together it'll be in the same exact orientation as it was before...

That's it so far... this afternoon I'm going to go get some new hardware for the diff cover and clean the housing up.
I'll take it to work with me and start welding everything up then get it put back together one night this week...
I'll take pics of the ball of weld before I put it all back together.

awesome, about time. you'll love the traction you'll get.

just be sure to tack everything slowly and can go back together, meaning the 2 parts of the carrier. becareful of splatter.

Yeah I figured I'd tack the spiders to the side gears then pull it out and start making passes. I can keep popping it back in and out of the carrier to make sure it isn't warping.

i think bearing caps are dependent on which side they go on too. youre gonna love the br-br-br going around corners.

Yeah that's why I left the adjuster nut retainer clip bolted to them... that way they'll have to go back the same way they came off.
I'm sure turning will be weird at first but I DD the k3500 so the k10 is just for fun.

Thats funny.:haha: You get the garage. Keep it goin.

Only when I'm working on something like this... otherwise the k10 lives outside.

So did you get your junk back together? I'm getting pumped for our Pismo trip!
I also mentioned a Bald trip to Chris... I think he's down for sometime in March.

OOoo every time I see your pics it's always in there.
Pismo is too soon.Maybe a trip just with the quad.
Bald??Me too. Me too.

haha yeah the garage has only been of use since I dropped down to 35's... when I was on 39's I was stuck outside 24/7.

I'll talk to Chris at school this week and see if we can get an idea of what weekend we can head up there...

Ehh that's no competition. I'm doing a 14 bolt that's stupid easy... I did my front end last year and it took me quite a while. Good Luck!

i might go to pismo this coming weekend (the 14th) il let you know if its for sure.
(hijack)

Finished last night.... It was cold and I kept getting sidetracked so there aren't really any pics... I'll snap a few of the finished product this afternoon.

I went for a test drive and it really isn't bad at all. On really tight turns I felt it wiggle and chirp a few times but on sweeping turns and times I wasn't really on the throttle I couldn't even tell. I did notice it pulls back to center a lot harder than before but I'm fine with that.

now you'll be able to replace that 3rd pic in your sig. atleast you'll have 3 wheel drive.

haha yep... I'll get a bunch of pics at the end of the month when we're back in Oceano.

Here's some pics of the completed product... got it all buttoned up with fresh grade 8 hardware so I should be good to go for a while...
