Here's my most recent problem with my 86 burb 6.2l and busted - off starter bolts (unfortunately lent it to a buddy) which I've successfully drilled out and helicoiled over the summer. I've had trouble though with locating the correct length of starter bolt from my regular suppliers and wanted to tap :D you guys for a specialised shop where they might have off - lengths of the standard 3/8" variety.
The problem is the bolts were broken off at different places and resulting in each helicoiled hole having different depths and features such as my rookie move of putting 2 helicoils in one hole (thus making the required bolt length different (123mm) from spec.)
Was advised against using washers to adjust bolt length.
Any starter bolt experts may feel free to chip in now, please:1zhelp:. Thanks in advance:coffee:.

if your breaking starter bolts off on a 6.2 diesel do you have the support bracket in place on the front end of the starter motor to the block of the engine ? if its missing this will happen over and over or could break the block .

also i have had super luck with this kit over the years . find the bushing that fits the hole the broken bolt is in . this centers the drill bit up as you drill the broken bolt . then use the extractor and turn the bolt out . https://store.snapon.com/Combination-Extractor-Sets-Extractor-Set-20pc-P630634.aspx

as to your question i dont have the answer as i dont play with 6.2 engines . but there is a lot of members here who do so they will post up for you .

I got mine from Rock Auto.
They come 5 to a box.
Let me look around and find the 3 extra.
I might still have em.

They are special.
They are knurled at the top to center the starter correctly.

Okay, i found one.
But you need 2.
Definitely specific to the 6.2.
That little knurled section at the end near the thread is really important.
It holds the starter just right and tight so there is no deflection.
A standard bolt will allow the starter to rock away from the ring gear and bust bolts.
Lemme keep looking for the other bolt.
You can have them free.
Just pm an address.
I can mail them next time im off the mountain.
But we have a big snowkite group coming in, so it wont be till next Thursday.

Hahaha!
Found a pair!
If you can wait, you can have em.
Otherwise Rockauto stocks them.

Editx2
Three of a kind.
Hehehe.
Why Rock auto sells em in 5's. A mystery.

Thanks for the info sweet. My buddy busted 'em off trying to torque the bolts, he's a bit gung-ho but just tryng to help me by fixing the solenoid which was hanging off but still working apparently-what's a guy to do! (I'm crippled up so maintenance is a much bigger issue anymore), The starter itself has no such problems as you mention.

you are awesome. Would you care to measure the length in mm to the face please?

You got it.. mm.. uh.. okay.
Lemme see if i have a measuring device capable of metric.
Wyoming dont ya know.
Hold on..

11 3/4 cm total lenth.
That's like.. 117.5 mm i think.

111.0 mm from under the head to tip thread (second pic.)

Anyhow 4.25 inches from under head to thread tip.

My head hurts.. metric.. so barbaric.
