For the general good, and because it might be useful to someone someday . . .

There are two different starter support brackets, one for the direct drive starter and one for the gear reduction starter. The one on the left is for the gear reduction, the right one is for direct drive starters.

P/N for the gear reduction bracket is 23502557
P/N for the direct drive bracket is 14028931

GM still sells both -- I recently bought the gear reduction drive piece for under $5.00 at the local dealership here in Sherwood Park, Alberta

Yep, I forgot to mention that both pieces in the photo were purchased within the last week from the dealership. I didn't know until I bought the wrong one that there were two versions :doah:

How's that truck coming along, btw?

Which one? :D

The 80 is pretty much done. Just needs a set of shocks and a floor hump to be streetworthy. The 86 needs the steering column put back in, and the new hydro clutch bled out before I can drive it. Also needs a front driveshaft before I can go play offroad, lol

russell, did you put an auto or manual in that 80?, i can't remember, i'm sure i got a floor hump for an auto in the shed

THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH!! i've been wondering why i can't seem to get my stock bracket to fit my newer 6.5 starter!

Odd, the gear reduction one is the one that I bought for under 5 bucks...

Richard, the 80 is running an NV4500. I need a high hump that doesn't have hole cut in it for a standard transmission shifter.

What are you guys doing for bolts? I've read on other sites where folks had a PITA time getting the correct ones.

for bolts I pulled out random ones from my junk bin till I found some that at least had threads that matched, took measurements for the right size or so, then went to Lowes and bought an assortment of hardware that had the right threads, and then tried various ones until it all fit. I am very happy with the result. If you want, tomorrow I will go look at the wrappers for the bolts that fit. I think the one in the engine block is an M8-1.25x25mm with an allen key head, with a couple of 5/16s washers, and I don't remember what I used on the starter, its smaller more like a machine screw, metric threads

I already had a bolt in the block holding the heat shield above the starter, and I found a nut for the stud on the starter in my bin :-) Took about five minutes . . .
