I have been having an issue that is intermitant. This just started happening where when I go to start my truck the starter just spins and doesn't engage the flywheel. Then I let off the key and try again then it engages like it should and the truck starts up. The truck did just sit for about 2 months prior to this happening. Also not sure if this is related but every now and again my radio loses all of its presets in the middle of driving. Could this be a loose battery connection or corroded connection?

Sounds like your starter solenoid is toast.

Since the power wiring does run through the solenoid (connected there) the issues could be related, but it seems unlikely, as you'd lose more than just radio presets if the battery connection was flakey.

I'm going to start investagaing...

First I'll clean up the terminals and all the connections.

Might get lucky, but since the starter is turning and not throwing the bendix out, (which is what engages with the flywheel) your starter obviously has power, but the solenoid is not operating properly.

Still never hurts to check out/clean suspect connections. I just hate dealing with the starter wires, they are usually a pain to get to. Usually easiest to remove the starter, and even then not that easy due to the wiring length.
