Starter Grinding

So anyway starters grinding. Running 97 GM mini starters. Worked for a while and then grinding again. Tried adjustments, shims, new starters etc Then I found the problem. If I put my starter bolts in a drill I noticed they were bent badly. Probably from over-tightening. Replace the bolts and with no shims the grinding went away. Just an FYI.

Not sure if the mini starters use the front angle brace on the starter to the block like the oem starters--not using one can lead to things like bent bolts or cracked starter noses...its a bigger issue on a diesel,very few of the gas engines I've had ,still had the front brace there--most get tossed the first time the starter gets taken out..lots of 6.2's had the outer bolt hole in the block snap off due to that front brace missing..

Brace, I just tried one it won't fit. Stater way too short, dipstick in the way.
