I have an '82 K5 6.2 Deisel.. I was recently having trouble getting the starter to engage when i cranked the key. Finally, it stopped turning over. I thought the ignition solenoid had gone out, so I replaced it.. It still wont turn over. I pulled the starter and had a shop check it, and it works fine. My glow plugs turn on, but I get nothing when I crank the key to the start position.. I'm hoping someone has an idea..

Could be a few things, ignition switch, fault in the wiring somewhere, check everything out, did you hook the starter up right?

The starter was hooked up right.. I didnt pull it till everything else failed. I wanted to rule the starter out as the problem.. I looked over the wiring for bad spots.. I found one spot that looked like a burnt fusable link.. I replaced that section of wire, and cant find anything else wrong..

Just a thought make sure wires going to terminals on starter are secuerly fastened and that the contact area is well cleaned. Not sure the diff between regular gas starter and diesel but this happened to me once and I found that to be the problem.. Are you getting anything when you turn the key on?

I'm gettin nothin. No click or anything.. When I hit the switch for the glow plugs, I hear them turn on, but nothing at all when I turn the switch over..

Hey a question off subject.. How do I attach a photo to my account?

Not the best idea, but try crossing post on starter with ignition on and see if anything happens. if you get it to turn Edit: then there is a problem with the ignition module, if there is still nothing look for any fuses blown in engine compartment. I blew one and thought I screwed up my ignition. PO screwed wiring all up in my truck and found a fuse up by the fire wall blown replaced it and she started right up..

Added: Make sure your cables are as tight as they can be fastened to the posts...

One upload it to the K5 Photogallery then copy and paste, or upload it to photobucket and click on the img link and paste into forum..

its also possible that your ignition switch (on the column) is bad or has slipped and is no longer reaching the crank position

How do i find out if thats the problem, and what do I do to fix it?

remove the switch from the column and try to trigger it into the crank position (it has a slot that the rod from the key fits into, just push it all the way forward to crank) if it doesnt work, then try to replace the switch, if it does work, replace and move on to the next possible problem

Its located on top of the column, just below the guages area.... its a huge PITA to get to, have fun. Only secured by 2 small sheetmetal screws. Easiest access is to remove the plate below steering column.

If it has just slipped, you will probably be able to see where the screws used to be on the bracket, and move it back there, then retighten
