Alright, I replaced the starter with an Auto-lite from Checker auto parts. The problem is as I was trying to shim it to make it a little quieter, I noticed that the snout looks different. This one looks A LOT more shrouded around the actual gear than the last one did..but according to pics from Advance auto parts online, the one for the MT is the one I had that worked great, but this new one is actually for an AT. The problem is the flexplate is actually diggin into the nose cone a little bit and it seems way too far away from the flexplate with NO shims on it. Anyone else run into this problem?

just bolt it in with no shim's and see what happen's. I have no shim's in my starter. work's and sound's fine.

I did that in the first place, loud and the flexplate is grinding into the raised aluminum piece in front of gear on starter.

This is the one that is on it now...

See that raised area of aluminum where the gear is? THAT'S my problem.

Here's the one that was on it before
