can I use a 6.2 starter on a sbc or bbc ? :dunno:

never recall reading this info anyplace ?

I have a almost new 6.2 gear reduction unit and figure might as well use it next time I need a starter .

They have a different tooth count and pitch on the starter drive, far as I knew they were not interchangeable...

6.2 has 139 tooth externally balanced flex plate, and I believe the starter drive gear has different amount of teeth vs a gas one and its different pitch too, also I think the nose cone sticks out further...one may "work" temporarily but it'll likely chew up the drive or ring gear,or both..

It may be possible to swap a gas starter drive onto the diesel starter,I'm not sure if the nose physically lines up close enough to mesh the gears properly if you could..a 6.2 starter certainly would be quite ballsy, and whip any gas engine over easily..maybe you could even swap noses from gas to diesel?....

Diesel now that you mention it...I do believe the nose cone was swapped to work. I was neck deep in drywall and paying my inlaws to get the beast rolling. I'm still fixing crossed up rigups from the diesel to gas swap:angry1:
But yeah that starter drive spun that 350!!!

well nose cone old to newer gear reduction prob wont work .

but I do also have a older style reg old 6.2 starter and could swap the nose cone .

or sell them both and just do newer 96-up vortec starter swap that's bolt on I know .

The "old" style non gear reduction starter does look like a typical 350 starter, only on steroids, as far as the length and diameter of the motor--they take the same "long" solenoid the 350 starters used,I swapped one onto my old starter before I upgraded to a gear reduction one...the noses "might" bolt up,I'm unsure if the starter drives are the same I.D. and O.D. though...
If the nose and drives can be swapped,I bet it'll whip over any gas engine like the spark plugs were removed !..
