starter

well it has been raining here so today I get to install the starter.

the stock bolts are too long I think but I have some that will work.
as soon as the sun comes up a little more ill get busy.
 
I did have to buy different bolts part # from O'reilys is: DOR 678-107 and they are 7.29 ea
this starter is so quit and spins a whole lot faster.
I am going to Buy another and keep in the rig just in case.
it is so much lighter and easier to swap. It does not weigh 15 lbs....

I love these new little starters. I think someone needs to market them with the correct bolts for small and big block chevy. They are not expensive like the race ones are either.
 
I have had no problems from this starter. I did buy a spare from rock auto
stock starter and it came with the bolts
part # WAI GLOBAL 6449NM

wanted to have a spare in case this crapped the bed but am going to order another one. like the light weight and cost
 
These need a starter relay to work if I am not mistaken
I put this one in and no starty.
I have to talk to my mechanic friend in the morning.
 
The starter in the original post needs a power from battery and a power from the key. Nothing more. You have something else not working.

Make sure power is to the big lug on the starter solenoid full time. Power to the spade on the solenoid when the key is in start position.

you could always take it to Autozone or O'Rielly and get them to test it to see if it works

The starters i bought came with the proper bolts, but were $69 so cost the same but saved me time

So how are they doing the test at the store? This seems to be a regular late-90s starter.
 
thats what I thought but it tested fine, but in my blazer it just clicks.
 
So the 6449N works fine, but the the 6449NM just clicks? Curious. If the wiring supports the current for one, it should support it for the other. If it clicks, it must be getting power.

Imo, @ktmoutfront nailed it. Since the starter is not dramatically different you should not need to "rewire" it by adding a relay, it should work as is.
