I´m going to put a diesel engine in my suburban. Mostly for better milage.
Just got the engine and now the planning starts.

Can anyone guess what kind of engine this is? One clue is that it is swedish.
It's a pretty common swap over here.

I have to rebuild the oilpan since it is kind of backwards for a chevy truck.
It also needs a new cooling system and oilcooler.
You can buy an adapterplate for a chevy trans so atleast that is not a problem.

I would have to guess Volvo... what do you plan for a transmission? Are there conversion kits available for Volvo diesel to GM transmissions?

Yes, you guessed right. It is a Volvo TD40A engine. It is a 3.6 liter turbo diesel I6 engine which in stock form puts out about the same power as a chevy 6.2 v8 diesel. They also came in marine applications with power up to 200hp so some improvement is possible.
Originally they came in truck like this:

There is a company over here that makes conversionkits for chevy automatics but in some cases the trucks used a chevy TH475 trans. If you find one with an automatic it fits without modification.
Mine comes from a truck with manual tran so I have to buy the conversion kit.

The big benefit with theese engines are the price. They costs about half of a 6.2 and about 1/8 of a Cummins BT6 (You have to pay around $4-5000 for a Cummins over here) They also gets great milage and parts are cheap.

Can you post a website link for the conversion kits... would be good reference material. May not be cost effective for us over here where 6.2L's are dirt cheap but a good reference none the less.

There are a few tricks for translation... if all else fails I'll call my old scout master since he knows swedish. I'm 50% swedish so I should probably learn it too someday.
