Ive used WD-40 and it works good...
You can use starting fluid, just make sure your glow plugs will NOT start and use very very little of it. I used it for a good year if not more starting in the dead of winter too!!! But be very careful, NOT TOO MUCH!!!

Very careful is right. You know how to tell you've used too much? It's the big ball of flame coming out of the intake!
