I had heard that 700r4 were trouble so after I crossed the 200,000 mi mark I decided to get it rebuilt befeore I had issues. I bought it with 100,000 mi on it and changed the fluid and filter 4 or so times over its live, about once a year. I love the low first and OD.
I had all the "updates" done with a few extra clutchs added to the pack, per local trans specialist. I had a shift kit, and vette servo installed as well. I then added remote filter, temp guage, drain plug, and dual coolers (stopped using the one in the radiator and that dropped the operating temps dramatically). I have been wheeling it pretty hard every year for 5+ years now and just got a trailer last year. Befeore that I drove it to and thru all the trails it saw, as well as DD. I have been pleased with it over all and never see temps over 180 on the trail or street. I love automatics for the trail and street and think this is one major factor to my 10 bolts surviving this long on 35 's and 37's. I have yet to break any thing axle winse. The auto allows me more calculated lines and never rolling backwards or stalling out, plus the torque convertor takes some of the shock load out of the axles.

Unless he has changed it, even Mr Watson runs a 700R4 in the ORD blazer/buggy. I don't hear any complaints from him and it is pretty apparent that he wheels his rig.

I'v been running a raptor 700 in my suburban with 37" boggers for the last 2.5 years daily driver and weekend wheeler. I have never had a problem I believe that tv cable adjustment and extra trans coolers are the key to keeping them alive. and alot of the wheelin is in this wonderful texas heat. I also belive that it has gone a long way in keeping me from fragging my axles.
