What is the easiest way to get the locking cones to break free to change my steering arm? Heat with the torch just a bit? Let me know how you got yours loose when you lifted your truck. Thanks.:dunno: :grind:

Sorry did a search and found several already sorry for botherin' yall.

yeah, beat the fok out of them. they're a PITA to get out...if you can get a small flat head in the cone washer, you can sometimes spin them out....but that's a biatch also. good luck.

On the top on the arm, you should find some casting numbers.
Take a BFH and hit the arm on those numbers and within a few hits, the cones should pop up. The numbers are the sweet spot for breaking it loose.

wd40, heat and a bfh, i had to remove my steering arm off my old axle to put on my new one and it took so long, if your talking about the part on your p.s. box, then it may be easier to take it off the truck to get a better swing.

it took lots of pb blaster a bfh a pry bar and a 12 pack of beer to get my arm off.... good luck my friend.

I never did get my steering arm off. It was slightly raised from the lift the PO put on, and I'm not going to use it when the axle gets replaced.

To give you an idea though... I beat the hell out of it. Up, down, side to side. 5lb hammers, 8lb maul, PB Blaster, digging at cones, heat, etc. I even took the nuts off and drove it around (short distance) trying to let the working loads pry on it. I have come to terms with the idea that I have a one-off custom knuckle with an integrated steering arm.

I used a hammer and a chizel, I put the chizel in beetween the cone washers and hit as hard as i could.. good luck:D
