Steering arm

Having trouble removing the stock 10 bolt steering arm .... it refuses to budge. I even tried an air hammer. My only thoughts now are to heat the arm. Any ideas?

BIG hammer and dont be afraid to hit it.

i have always had the best luck with brake rotor/hub off and backing plate off. gives me a clear shot then few good solid hits with mini 4-5 lb hammer or a good 8-10lb full size sludge.

dont heat to much as it can transfer down in and trash the ball joint.

Been covered many times, you can search.

You do now how the studs/nuts work, right? Take the nuts off, then there's cone washers down inside the holes into the arm. These are likely crusted onto the studs by now. Spray the hell out of them with penetrating oil, then see if you can slide them around with a flathead screwdriver -- they have a slot on one edge and can, once loose, be expanded a bit off the studs by spreading that slot.

Then bang on the arm with a sledge, as mentioned ... some say there's a sweet spot, I donno, maybe try banging it up and down both. Once it's loose you can prolly get the cones up and then you're golden.

If your replacing the studs too, then weld the nuts to the stud and twist it all out. Havent had it fail yet

Just so future searches turn up good info. Beat it like a rented mule...hit downward and side to side. Do not hit upwards as it will only set the cone washers even harder. Keep beating it side to side and downward until you see a cone washer pop up a little. As soon as one does, use a sharp screwdriver and a small hammer to spin it off. Lather, rinse, repeat until all three are out. The rest should be self explanatory.
