STEERING ARM

HOW DO I GET THE STEERING ARM OFF OF A DANA44
PLEASE HELP I BANGED ON IT, I GOT IT HOT WITH A TORCH
ALSO THE ARM IS ORG SINCE 74

Well for me it was all in how you bang on it with the hammer.

I hit down on the end where the drag link bolts, then up. Did this for a few min till it loosened up a little.

Try hitting down and side to side. Mine came off with that, and a LOT of penetrating oil in about 15 minutes. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

tried it...banged on it for a hour with a 5pd hammer. i've used 3 cans of pen.oil

I was using an 8lb sledge, try a bigger BFH. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

How about one of the ball joint pullers (the tuning fork looking wedge piece, my pop has one on top of his tool box seems about the right size).
Or an air chisle with the flat blade, point it up if your replacing the arm, stop if its f-ing up the knuckle.
BFH works too.

Try hitting the side. It worked for me. I also used ATF instead of pen fluid. I seems to work better for alot of applications. Anyway, just my $0.02.

completely torch it off then remove the studs if you can or if they break off torch them to but don't damage the threads....Oh and you must go to GM to get the cone washers and make sure to install it with new all metal lock nuts... /forums/images/graemlins/k5.gif

Bring it to the house. I got a tool to get it off!!!

If the sledge wont do it, the plasma will...

Try hitting up at the bottom of the arm where the DL mounts if you have the DL off already. Also 8 lb hammer w/ a full legenth handle, minium. If its still on, put the tire back on and turn the wheel back and forth a few times w/ the nuts off.
