Has anyone come up with a differeny style of brace for the steering box? I like the ORD type, but would like to persue different avenues. Like tying both sides of the frame together, just to be different.thanks

AFAIK, nobody has ever tied both sides of the frame together to brace the steering box area.

It will work but it doesn't make much sense to tie both sides of the frame to accomplish something that a much shorter brace could do.

You can do it, I'm sure it will work and it shouldn't be anything you need pictures of to make. Its just more than is needed IMO.

I would go for the double brace if you can, the front crossmembers need as much stiffening as possible. The weld in kit does more than you think, I recently put one on my truck and it stiffened up the steering a lot.

Yah I like the way the weld in brace fits too. It really stiffens up the area plenty and is beafy enough.

The crossmembers were riveted because it was economical (comical?). With age, and Off Road "testing", they loosen. Either replace them with Grade 8 hardware, or weld the frame.

Esteban did a nice fairly easy frame reinforcement awhile back. He had pics of it. He basically boxed the frame behind the bolts and put long sleeves in between the frame & the new box to make it rigid. Then he used real long bolts on the steering box.

I have thought about doing that. If I do, I will still brace the front crossmember for rigitity.
