Just installed a JKW end cap for hydro assist and after I had it all together I turned the input left and right while the box was still on the bench and it hangs up turning left but is smooth turning right. Does anyone have any ideas as to what this could be. Wondering if I screwed something up by pushing out the stock end cap by turning the box left to pop it out.

If you turned the input shaft in order to remove the end cap then all or some of the 24 balls have fell out of the rack nut and now the whole box needs to come apart to fix it. You better find a book and start reading or pay someone to fix it.

Thanks for the reply, guess I will be rebuilding my box this days off.
As said, you've probably lost your balls! The only way is a strip. It isn't actually too bad to do, just fiddley. I think I've got some photos I took on my works PC. I'll have a look tomorrow. If you're pretty mechanically minded it'll be an easy enough job. If not you'd be best to get some help.

pics never hurt, Four Wheeler mag did an article on rebuilding a saginaw so I'm not going in totally blind. But any help or tricks are welcome to tearing this box down.

Took my box apart and found out I have 11 dark ball and 13 silver ones is this a big problem or wont make any difference?

Four Wheeler magazine said to alternate them. Dark ball, silver ball, dark ball, silver ball.

Read all the write ups but everyone else has 12 dark and 12 silver, so I was wondering if I alternate them and end up having three silver ones in a row will this be a problem? Since I have 11 dark 13 silver.

So when these balls are in a loop there will be 3 silvers in a row.

Well the wife and I got the steering box all put back together tonight and it's workin nice and smooth. Lesson learned. Thanks for the replies.
