Steering Box Top Cover

I searched but did not find a clear answer -

I need to tap my top cover for an assist fitting. I removed the bolts but saw the pitman arm moves up & down as I try to take the cover off. How is the cover connected to the shaft? Can the cover be removed without pulling the shaft?

Take the adjustment nut off and screw the bolt all the way in. Make sure you count the rotations it takes to remove and you get it back the same # of turns, very important, this is part of the adjustment of the box.

Not sure I pulled mine when I was swapping pitman arms so I left the shaft connected.

x2 on threaded on shaft adjuster.

count - turn off - reinstall same # of turns.

Yep, it'll allow the cap to come up and off.
