Steering Box

i`ve had this problem with dw for a while and i am trying to find out exactly wat it is. there has been a clunkin noise coming from it for a few months so we looked at it a little more. with the truck just sitting in one spot, i had someone spin the steerng wheel back and forth. you can see that the pitman arm where it bolts in the steering arm looks as if it is going up and down in the steering box...any idea????

could this be the cause of my dw and/or the wandering on the road and pulling to the right and left???

frame may be cracked at the steering box these trucks do that a lot.
Or just get bigger bias tires, that may fix most the problems of your truck

The sector shaft moving up and down is the adjustment i keep telling you that needs to be done. Apparently your friend adjusted it wrong and it is very loose.

yes i think he did also..i think i will invest 200 into a rebuilt with a life time warranty

I sure wish i had your money, why not just pay a shop to adjust your box and be done with it. Most shops would charge nothing more than an hours labor and i'm sure they wouldn't even charge that much to make such an easy adjustment.

i know you got me there but from what i`ve read on adjusting the steering box it has kind of made me scared of touching it. i`m not sure if there are any shops around here that will do that

Any shop will do this, otherwise they shouldnt be trusted to do anything else.

My two cents; buy a chiltons or some other manual and start trying to figure this stuff out. Allot of it sounds more complicated then it really is, stick your head under the hood and use common sense. When i was 16 I was in your shoes and now I'm enrolled in Western Washington Universities Vehicle Research Institute. As long as your interested in it and are committed its worth a try. Plus its a kick in the a**!

you know what guys..thanks alot...this is why i love this place..i am interested in figuring this stuff out for myself but dont think it will go any further than that but hey ya never know.not even sure wat i wanna do yet

Well if you have the $$ to buy a new box just try it yourself first. Maybe you'll fix it and can save the $200 for something more functional.

he!! I never know what I am doing !!! but I use that remember what I did case I need to undo it aproach . ALOT!!
