are steering boxes from a 77 and 83 2wd the same.. and do they mount the same..?

That's right around the time when they changed the fittings for the lines. Otherwise, I think they are the same.

The boxes use different lines but the mounting is the same, i believe the input shaft splines are different though (different diameter and spline count).

i hope its just the fittings, i have all the lines and the pump............different spline count would suck baaad..

GM did change the spline count and diameter i just today i looked up a rebuild kit for someone and it covers 80-87 and that's because of the input spline difference.

so the way it looks then the shafts are different.... that sux..

anyone ever switch the shafts in the box from 4wd to 2wd...?

People swap sector shafts all the time to do crossover steering. It's an easy swap and straight forward, the hardest part is adjusting the sector shaft afterwards. Too tight and the steering won't go beyond center and too loose and your steering wheel will have too much play before the wheels start to turn.

ok thanks, i looked and my pitman arm fits 2wd boxes from 69-91 .... so i think it will work...if not ill try changing the shafts around...

my friend has the older 2wd box

napa was able to supply a pressure line that fit for those fittings, not sure if the pump is the same or whatnot

he didnt have any issues with spline counts
