Hello Members. I have been looking to purchase a steering box for my 89 K5. I have looked into several ones at the big box auto stores but they didn’t look good considering they supposed to be remanufactured/ rebuilt. Some looked like they were just painted over dirt boxes. My box leaks out the top seal. I was going to remove it fix seal or send It out for rebuild at Redhead steering or Bluetop steering. I was going to install another in it place. I Did see one listed on a website it’s model number 78184 HR. It’s listed at Parts Geek and also Rock Auto. Redhead steering also sells a total rebuilt.

I stopped buying rebuilt parts.
I buy new and if that's not available I rebuild myself

Well I will most likely for now go with a Redhead rebuilt. I use my truck as a daily driver. Once I remove original one I make a decision on what I’m going to do with. It works great just leaks out top seal. Maybe just change the seal. I have done a lot of mechanical work but never got involved in rebuilding a steering box.
