I need help, i have a GMC 4x4 1 ton truck and can i put a 2wd blazer steering box in, since i'm going with hi cross over steering and hydro assist. Any other info on chevy boxes would be helpful. Thanks

For 73-87/91 trucks, there are three variables:

1. 2WD vs 4WD. 2WD have the sector shaft we want for crossover, you know this.

2. Variable-ratio-vs-fixed. To the best of my knowledge the only boxes that *could* get fixed ratio were low-end, no-options 1/2 tons.

3. O-ring or inverse flare. Boxes through ~1981ish are the flare thing, boxes after that are O-ring.

In your case, if you have a box you like, I would swap sector shafts from a 2WD box:

This way you know your box fits, plus it's easy.

They all have the same bolt pattern and frame layout. Only real thing to look for is to make sure the box you want has the same fittings as the box you have. Swapping the sector shaft is your best though unless your box is shot.

The 2wd sector shaft will swap to the other box but since it is all ready ported for assist swaping the box is prolly your best way to go should be no problem is sounds like both are oring if one is 84 and other is 87.
