steering column assembly

Every book i have has the steering colum assembly and they stop at the steering wheel nut, including the 1972 chevrolet 10-30 series truck service manual.

I need to see how the horn pieces go together on the stock steering wheel.
horn cap, horn button cup, horn button bushing, etc..... for tilt

Pull your service manual back out and go look in the body/chassis electrical section, then find the directional signal controls. My '69 book does not show the tilt (don't think they had tilts in '69) but it does show the order of assembly. Funny thing is my '69 book shows the older 67-68 parts in it?

same thing shows only up to the steering wheel nut.

i found this on the internet....does it look correct? its the wrong steering wheel but the parts look similar.

I went to the wrecking yard and found a stock setup. I bought all the parts and now i know how it goes together.

it's really simple (4) parts, but if you dont have a drawing its really hard.
LMC's book has the parts in the wrong order which really threw me. Unfortunatley i use alot of sales catologs as assembly manuals :D
 
I can take a picture. The spring part of it should be easy if you get the big wavy washer in there the right way.

you hit it on the money.... should the center of the wavy washer be out, or the od of the washer be out?
 
I'll have to check mine, but I think the "center is be out" since the smaller metal cup that pressed down on it has little ridges on it that are pretty close to the center.

Edit: I checked and was right. The center pops out. The picture a few threads up is pretty close.

1. Put the washer on
2. Add the metal "cup" thingy.
3. Screw on the plastic "three-prong" thingy.

Now when you press down on the "cup". you can feel a small springing action in there. It's really short though so it could be hard to miss. It's easier to notice after you snap the horm cap on.
