steering column guru's

i have 89 crewcab and column was crap so i bought another 1 from a 91
but they are different .
my question is this, if i cut the plate off can you see any reason why it wont work?
its a little longer but i have xj shaft

sure its from the correct body style.?

the newer 88-up look close to the untrained eye in a junk yard untill you pull them out of the firewall.
 
i dont think they are,i think its from 91 or newer thats why i'm asking if i cut that plate would it work
a freind said wiring is no big deal but i dont want to hack up a good column if its not gonna work.


see the pics it has that little plate:confused: and its 2 inches longer
 
You can't cut that plate because it is the support for the bottom of the column. You really don't want to see what happens with just the two bolts holding it to the bottom of the dash.

Columns are not specific for 4 speeds or 3 speed autos, they will all work, you just need to find the correct years for your vehicle. Any of the later model ones will work, if they are from the old body style, but cutting that plate is a very bad idea.
