Steering column interchange question

Just a quick question,,,

Will the 89-91 steering column work in an 88. I think theres no difference but figured I'd ask before I tore it out and paid for it. I'm mainly wondering about wire plugs and such. I'm pretty sure their mechanicaly the same


I know I'mna feel stupid when I get an answer

if all square body yes.

if there is a 88-up new body in the mix no only good for some parts.

Yeah their both sqaures I figured there was no diff but I heard the late 70's columns wouldnt work from someone so I figured I'd ask

like 84 ish and up wipers moved from dash to column

and early years diffrent steering shaft hook up shape.

2 major diff i know of.

Cool, thanks I scoped out the junk yard last week and found a nice column with a tight tilt mechanism, working key, and the right color. Plus I found a first gen with brand new window regulators for my kids truck. Got there today and the whole row had been crushed Now the only thing left is a 90 with a good tilt column, key dont turn for some reason but I guess I can change the barrel cheap enough. $13 at orilleys

Yeah you gotta jump on things like this these days, they crush them faster than you can say oh ****.

that sucks.within that time they should be well picked through by then.at least you got to see the hot counter girl and flirt a lil.

the 88 3/4 ton burb that I wanted the column from had a few engine parts missing and was otherwise pretty much intact and solid. Sucks to see that stuff in scrap yards.

As for the hottie,,,, My fiance said to work some majic and bring her home to momma if I can She has seen her and wants her BAD Unfortunetly the force is weak with this one and the girl at the yard is WAY beyond my mack level

I picked one up one time that was not compatible.

Double check the wires.


I don't know why everything looked fine but it didn't work. I returned it & found a better one.
