Hi,

I searched so if you have a thread and can direct it to me, that'd be dandy. Im happy to read, my preference actually, but Im not exactly sure what to search for.

Context
1975 Blazer
350/350
Column shifter

I cannot get this stupid thing to work correctly and want to make sure I am not going crazy (er). When the key is on the on position, assuming the transmission linkage is disconnected, is it a true statement that the shifter should be able to flow freely from Park to L2 with no clicks or anything? In other words, all indication (other than the obvious actual display) of gear selection happens at the transmission, correct?

P.S. Just one more reason rowing gears is better:)

Thanks, sometimes I stare at something for so long I end up being my own worse enemy as I get spun around backwards...

There is a linkage like this with a spring arm/roller inside the transmission, which is what gives the shift feel and hold the linkage in place.

Also, don't be fooled by the indicator on the steering column. It is not connected to the transmission at all, it just shows position of the column. So you get the linkage working right first, then you adjust that indicator to match by moving the little clip that pulls the string.

Ha, I was not looking at the indicator as that thing might not even be there. I got it working, but the linkage is kinda wonky an dI will have to keep working on it.
