Steering Column Woes

My situation is this....in the Spring of '13, tried to fix my wobbly tilt steering in my '88 GMC Jimmy. I watch a couple youtube videos and had it figured out. I got all the way down to the bolts on the ball and socket joint, I applied a little thread lock, and tightened it up. The thing is, things were falling out of the steering column and I wasn't able to put it back together. Then I accepted a new job that required us to move. The truck sat there in storage and hasn't been fixed or started since then. I need to get this thing rolling again and I finally was able to tow it down here to FL where I can work on it. I've resigned to the fact that just replacing the steering column might be the most expedient way to fix it. Should I source an OE steering column or an after market steering column. This column had the left turn signal with cruise control and I'm pretty sure the bright light switch is on the same handle.

Once I get this fixed the truck will be driveable but after sitting for 10 years, I plan to replace all the fluids and probably a few hoses.

What are some suggestions for sources for a steering column?

if its an automatic with the column shift, and combination switch with cruise... should be avail from any wrecking yard with a decent amount of gm stuff.
I would just try to fix the one that you already have? pretty sure all parts can be found on ebay, or new LMC or Classic Parts Industries out here in So Cal?

Complete gm would be the easiest.
Do you think you still have all the pieces? If so we could maybe help guide you getting it back together

Squarebody Syndicate has a column that is 2 inches shorter than stock. Nice piece if your adding a steering wheel with a deeper dish or qr hub.

This initially sounded really cool because I'd like to add a quick release to my Blazer but I just looked and it's $1249.00 (+ options), holy crap!

Which years are the AT steering columns interchangeable? LMC and motor city only show a 73-78.
Truck and car shop have 3 AT types 73-76 77-78 and 79-83
Then ebay sells this 89-91 K5 BLAZER/JIMMY FULL, SUBURBAN TILT STEERING COLUMN 83-87 C10 K10 R10 V10

My 89' non tilt has a diferent neutral safety switch then the ones listed I'm guessing many will work but I'd like to have original parts for the year 89'
Prices are crazy for rebuilt and not too many squares at the wrecking yards (usually stripped ) if any
The speedway looks great and affordable

for sure the dimmer switch is different from the 75-78. I not 100% if there were many changes between 83 and 89.

going by the picture on Speedway that is the earlier column. doesn't have the high beam switch or mechanism. Do you have working cruise control? Is the wiper switch on the turn signal stalk ?

I found an overly comprehensive but good write up but so many options. My K5 is 89' high sierra had high beam on column and cruise but gone not sure about intermittent wipers if that was stock

|F| fits, but options differ. Switch as needed.

|A| fits by transferring the wiper switch.

I found this its part of 3 pages with specifics. I know there are many that will work but hard to sift through when purchasing .
The 28" speedway looks awesome if it would just bolt in but doesnt show high beam option.
I might be best shopping the wrecking yards unfortunately not too many 88-91 and stripped quick when i have gone, hacked up
The more I get into this truck the more stuff I find swapped out. I was able to get the back up lights working then discovered this column is from an earlier truck kinda pieced togethr column. old reverse neutral switch but high beam on the column , wiper delay but doesnt work just high low

going by the picture on Speedway that is the earlier column. doesn't have the high beam switch or mechanism. Do you have working cruise control? Is the wiper switch on the turn signal stalk ?
No cruise, but did have, yes wiper switch on turn signal. Says delay or intermittent but ony works fast/slow

I do not think that speedway column will be correct. would bolt in, start, steer, and signal probably. You'd need to figure out high beam switch, and wiper switch. I do not think they can switched over unless the column was made to do so.

What is the info from in post #12 ?
