I think I have it narrowed down to why my steering is loose column is tight but I can move the wheel side to side an inch or 2 and it looks like it the arm on the steering box it moves but where it hooks to the drag link is sloppy. For the life of me I can't find a replacement I looked on rock auto because i thought it was the pitman arm and the picture i saw dentifies it as that but they only list them for 2x4's:(

I found it in LMC can anyone tell me if they've bought one at an auto zone or checker.

its #14

The pitman arm is a non-wear part. The only reason you'd replace it is if it was cracked; the old "visual inspection" would identify this (that is, look for cracks ;) )

On your 4WD truck, the wear items are the drag link ends, #11 and #12, which you can get at any parts house.

If they're rusty, it might be worth the few extra bucks to get a new adjuster sleeve. Then you screw the ends into the sleeve -- they're threaded opposite, i.e. one turns clockwise in and the other anti-clockwise -- until the entire assembly is the same length as the old one.

If you keep the sleeve, be sure to count how many turns each end requires coming out, and put the new ends in that same number of turns. In any event, you'll prolly have to adjust them once you're done, to center the steering wheel.

You'll also want a tuning fork the break the DLE's loose; your parts house should have them as well.
