Curious to get the consensus of the group, so ever since Moab I hardly have any left turn ability. Right is fine….my steering wheel is also upside down now when I’m driving straight. So far I’ve checked all the linkage, both front spring pins, and the frame behind the box…all good. I disconnected the drag link and centered the box (I get 3.5 turns lock to lock so I made it about the 1.75 mark) reconnected the drag link and no dice. I can go right against the steering stop turning right and no where close turning left….thoughts?

What about no drag link and moving the tires by hand? Full lock to lock without any weird resistance?

I’m curious over how easy or not it turns by hand. Resistance may be in the knuckle at the king pins on a 60.

Thanks guys! It’s weird, I dropped off that last steep drop on hells on Sunday and the brake booster went and the steering got tight at the same time….then the steering freed back up and was fine the rest of the way out, I just figured it was toasty from the trail.

Update….disconnected drag link and turned wheels by hand, move freely stop to stop. Disconnected tie rod and did each wheel seperatly, again both freely move. Rag joint seems okay, it’s tight and I can reef on it pretty hard and get no movement….

I have seen twisted pitman shafts, mostly on transmission power line trucks, over weight and and under driven. 4wd mean indestructible, right?

It almost acts like the Pittman arm jumped teeth on the sector shaft, but I see no evidence of that

Well the steering box has been replaced, huge difference in overall steering now, guess that needs done once every 44 years or so….still not quite to the stop on the left, but I noticed something else I’m curious about….the drag link ends are touching inside the adjusting collar and I need to get a little more to center the wheel….it seems to me that this could also be why I can’t make it to the steering stop turning left….if the drag link could be shortened a little more that would allow the Pittman arm to make its full swing to lock…has anyone run into this? It’s almost like one drag link end is too long
