I have a 1989 full size Blazer, I had 2-3 in of play in the steering wheel, I checked the tie rods, drag link, steering column, ball joints, etc.. Found tie rods had little play in them. I replaced both. Still had unacceptable play. Found quite a bit of play in the steering box. :doah:OK went to napa and spent the 300 somthin and replaced it. Still has the play!!! I tried to adjust the box with no luck!! The box mounting is solid, pitman arm is good. Any ideas or suggestions would be great! Thanks!:D

my truck has alot of play in it, of course i just put a four inch lift so i may need to look into that

Where the steering column comes out of the firewall and attaches to the steering rod that connects to the gear box their is a white plastic piece that probably is broken which doesn't allow the steering to be tight. Do a search on here and you will see the white plastic piece I am talking about.

do the xj steering shaft mod it works wonders! the rag joint might be your problem....

If you're expecting the steering wheel to be as tight as most modern cars, you'll be disappointed. You can replace the rag joint and anything else that's worn or the XJ steering shaft does help a bit too if you can get rid of the rag joint.

Change the rag joint and then have someone adjust your new box, i haven't seen a rebuilt steering box yet that was adjusted properly. Also, i did the XJ steering shaft and it was night and day difference and my rag joint wasn't even bad.
