I have a confusing problem (at least to me) My 89 wont turn completly to the right, but will turn too far to the left, also my steering wheel is about a quarter turn past center. All these probems started after getting stuck in some really thick mud and extracting the truck was really hard on the steering. The output of my steering box is keyed so no problem there, I have replaced the drag link ( the link between the pitman and steering arm) but left the overall lenght the same as the old link. How does that link affect everthing if I have to make it longer? also my camber is off, what are ideal measurments for camber? Sorry about being long winded, and thanks for everyones input.

adjust your draglink. point wheels straight, disconnect drag link, rotate steering wheel to make pitman arm perpendicular to the frame, adjust draglink till it lines up with both holes.

Same basic procedure as suggested with one mod. Count the number of turns lock to lock for the box. Put the wheel at 1/2 of that count in order to get maximum travel in each direction. If the wheel is not vertical than you can rotate it with some compromise or, re-mount the wheel on the column if it's an issue.

Check the frame behind the steering box. I have seen alot of the solid axle trucks bend there causing a caster issue in the front.

If I'm thinking about it right, sounds like it's too short.

Easiest thing to do is as stated above...

Some tips.. take a wire bush and brush the crap out of the threads on the drag link, whether or not you leak oil it will be pretty cruddy. Then soak it in PB Blaster the day before, finally using PB before breaking it loose. To get the adjusting sleeve to move at first you will probably need a pipe wrench, once it's broke free though it should rotate by hand if the steering column is unlocked.
