Steering Problems

I am going to purchase ORD's crossover steering kit. Yesterday I was driving my blazer and the steering column broke out of the steering box. I don't think that the new kit will fix the problem totally. It will help with the steering but it seems like the angle that the steering column comes into the steering box is not right. My blazer sits on a Dodge frame and has a Cummins. The guy who did the build tried to line them up but I think I need something more. A friend mentioned getting another u-joint added in the steering column. Have nay of you dealt with this? Do you have any suggestions?

If only I could see the Dodge Blazer's pics

Do you have the Heep XJ shaft?

That might be your only solution, I thought I was going to have to do one of these on mine with the coil overs.

Looks like it came apart at the damper, but on a stock rig, that damper is on the column end, not the gearbox. It wasn't designed to take much of an angle. If you have a clear path from the column to the gearbox, a double jointed shaft is the way to go. A lot of people convert to jeep XJ shafts (me included). If it'll fit your setup, you should try it.

By the way, glad you didn't die...or deadify someone else.

There shouldn't be any need for a support bearing, just swap in a XJ shaft like mentioned.
Or if you have the extra bucks, get a Borgeson shaft.
That way you'll get a proper u-joint in each end of the shaft.

When you do crossover, you should relocate the steering box backwards and bolt it directly to the frame.
There should even be holes ready for it, as that is where the box sits on 2wd trucks.
