so since i installed the big block the front springs have saged and my steering rod is damn close to the crossmember and sometimes when i turn i hear a clunk so im sure its that .... would it be fine to notch the front lip off the cross memeber? so its flat then has the back lip going down? or should i just spend the crap load of money and get a steering rod that bends down then goes across to the knuckle?

I believe you are asking whether you need to buy a bent draglink or modify your engine crossmember. If that is the case, both are acceptable solutions. The bent draglink will undoubtedly be more expensive but will be a quick and easy fix. Modifying the crossmember is cheaper but more time consuming. The lip you are talking about removing is important structurally and you will need to compensate for this if you decide to go that route.
