The old rag joint has gota go, which steering shaft do you guys like better. The borgenson or flaming river....?

Honestly do the XJ shaft upgade I did it on my CC made a huge difference going to do my K5 soon. I picked mine up from a '94 Cherokee for $25.

This should be sticky'd

I got it for $20 a a wrecking yard. It was pretty easy, most work was getting the rusty old shaft out.

I got a two piece all metal shaft out of a late 80's XJ

I had to use the press in the shop to shorten it a few inches for proper length.

I also had to hammer a wedge into the split in the spline portion to "open it up" enough to slip it on.

The spline count is the same on my 87 as the jeep shaft.

Thanks guys, i have an 80 box i wonder if the splines are still the same..?

Ok that idea works with newer boxes and columns but what about the older stuff. I have an 80 style box with the 83 column. The column itself has the squareish oval end instead of splines.....Ill try searching this but in the mean time anyone....?

the column shouldnt matter, just notch it a little bit with the dremel.
then the splines should all be the same on saginaw boxes. some just have the little rod sticking out and some dont. it shoudl fit either way. mine cost $9 at the yard here so its not a big deal really to just try.

So the end of the columd wont matter, isnt that a long way to stretch it..? I guess the bolt would hold good anyway if it fits tight.

the xj shaft is a perfect fit, its like it should have been made for our trucks.

just heat it up in the middle a little bit to get the plastic things loose.

What year is best for that..? Would it work with a body lift..? Thanks for the help, i gota find one and do it, my rag joint is shot. Does the bolt go thru the top..?

i snagged the one out of the yard that had already been pulled for me. 90s or so.

it should work fine with a BL. and the bolt doesnt go through the column, it sort of clamps the shaft to the column.

ok thanks, and thats a wrangler or cherokee..? Im thinking wrangler...?

when you pull one check the ujoints. 1/2 the ones i have ever pulled are frozen up at one end.

and its a simple bolt in. i got one in my 79k30 no problems.
