Hi All,

I have a few steering issues one of which is that the Belt seems to be squealing when I get to the limit right or left. I have checked the fluid and am good (not low). Would to much fluid make it squeal or is the belt simply not tight enough?

Problem number 2. I recently replaced my steering box with a junk yard, it has a few issues but it works better than my previous box...
The main issue is that from center I get only one complete turn left before the squealing starts going to the right gives me two full turns.

When I swapped out the box I put everything on exactly how I took it off, did I do something wrong?

Lastly the upper input shaft is leaking, is that hard to change or should I have someone do it (got a quote for $75 minus parts)

Thanks in advance for you advice

Don't be afraid to put quite a bit more tension on. I had a whole bunch of funny noises going on with my ps. I looked up tension specs and found out what I thought was pretty close to tight turned out to be way low. My 87 serpentine/vbelt setup takes over 110 pounds on each belt. Tightened them and all my noises went away! Also if its been squealing for a while it wouldn't hurt to replace it, there cheap and that will also help your problem. Lots of people just tension by feel... I never will again... You may want to pick up a tension gauge. Very worth it!

Good luck.

Thanks for the info on the belts...

Does anyone have any ideas about the limited steering on one side?

Are you lifted with stock steering? If so that is the problem. You need either a raised steering arm, a dropped pitman arm, a dropped drag link, or preferably crossover steering.
