Steering Stabilisers

Good day,

I'm new to this forum and could use some help!

I want to install dual steering stabilisers on my 79 chevy K10, but I'm wondering if adding dual Rancho stabilisers, plus the stock one for a total of 3, will put excessive stress and wear on my steering box and steering linkage.

Would it be better to install a single stabiliser, for a total of 2 with my stock one, or remove the stock stabilisers and install a dual Rancho kit?

I run 33'' tires and I have annoying steering bumps. The steering box has just been completely rebuilt, and linkage checked and replaced.

If you need 2 or 3, you probably have another problem.

You definatly have other problems. I run one worn out stabilizer on my K5 and I have 40" Boggers. You may need to get your tires balanced, and check your alignment...

loose wheel bearing will do that too

any more than 2 is over kill. thay say up to 35-37 range is 1 and over is 2 for the tire size to stabilizer count. do a complet check over of the front end and steering system. and dont forget the rag joint at the box to colom shaft and the end of the colom has a bearing in it.

I agree with everyone else...
steering stabalizers are good to use with big tires.. however be carefull as they mask problems...


my truck had the death wobble once.. so I thought it was the steering stabilizer.. replaced it but still had the DW....

so I looked further into it.. I had a snapped stub shaft on a d44
so the only thing holding my front tire on was the brake caliper!!!!

Thanks to all for your suggestions. But whait I don't understand, as I said in my post, I'm having this truck completely rebuilt from A to Z, all that will be original is the frame and the cab, everything else is being replaced by new parts, and it was the same for the axles.

All the steering linkage is either new or in good condition, no worn bearing and the truck has been aligned. The steering box has been rebuilt.
It's not a very annoying bumps in the steering problem, but my girlfriend has a 2003 Jeep with 32'' tires, though not as wide as mine, then lighter, and stock alloy rims, also lighter, and the sterring is normal.

I don't see loose movement in the steering when the truck is standing still, and it doesn't pull to one side either.... Anybody has further idea????

check your tires wear patterns. I ran a set of mudders from my backyard that were worn all funny (looked almost like a "V" they pulled, bad!

do you have a lift ?
sometimes you can get bad bump steer from lifting your vehicle

just replace the factory one with a high quality replacement.
i replaced all my steering and ball joints to find out i just have bad tires, take it and have them ballanced....it cant hurt.
