Hey, just trying to get some info. i have a 78 short wide with a d44 in front and crossover steer. i have a new driverside knuckle with my new steer arm on it so i can convert to high steer but im not sure how to keep my stabilizers or will i need them for road driving? any input would be great.

I just rigged up a stabilizer mount out of a pair of 3" muffler clamps with a piece of 1/4" plate over the top and then I bolted the stabilizer stud vertically through the plate. The stabilizer is now directly on top of the axle. The tierod just has 2 tabs welded to it. I honestly couldn't tell a difference with or without it on there, but I already had it so I figured it was worth a try. I'll try to get a pic later today if you want.

that would be great, right now i have the ORD tie rod mounted in the norm spot with dual inline stabilizers. but have heard horror stories of speed wobble without them when changing to a full high steer. only runnin a 5 1/2" lift and 35" tires.

try em without first, I had 8"s of lift on a 10 bolt with 38s and no stabilizer but it was only on crossover not full high steer had no problems

I agree with Blazinzuk, see what happens without it. I'm running 7" of lift with crossover and 42's with no death wobble without the stabilizer. I had one for awhile, but I ripped it off on the trail and never even noticed it was missing.

alright, will try that. im in the process of doin the 56/52 swap also. rear is done but need to do the front and figured id do it all at once while torn apart. thanks for the imput

here's the pic:

did I mention that it's been collecting dust/rust for a few years?

what steering arms did you use to mount that high steer in back of the axle?

If there is death wobble, something is worn out. The stabilizer may hide the oscillations, but something is still worn out. A system in good repair wont need a stabilizer at all. The only time its really warranted is driving fast down a bumpy road or something.

My guess if you have issues with high steer on a 44 is to investigate the upper balljoints. They take a lot more abuse with high steer than they're intended for and they already wear out.just with big tires as it is.
