steering stabilizer?

the little shock absorber on my front axle connected to the front tie rod to the axle, noticed it was leaking, because it was wet metal all around it, and it looks worn in general, it is stock, i was looking into a replacement, because i notice i can feel all the bumps in the road, i was looking at rough country, or ranchero stabilizer shocks, i dont want to go dual stabilizer, i want a single, what do you guys recomend, im running 33x12.50 tires on a stock front 10 bolt.

You can put an aftermarket single stabalizer in the stock location. You dont really need to buy the brackets unless you go dual. Pretty much anything would work.
 
did it come with a rubber shock style boot? was it behind the counter at autozone or in the store shelves? i just wanna walk in there with knowlage because none of those ****s over there know what they are doing. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif, thanks.

No, it didnt come with a shock boot. I just asked for a steering stabilizer for my 86 K10 and the had a stock replacement or a HD one. I got the HD one. It was behind the counter. It should come with the stock style hardware also.
 
well my folks just gave me some dough to go and get one, im gunna goto autozone and get one this week sometime, that and a oil filter and some 10w-40, im runn'n 20w-50 and a quart of rislone, turns over kindda slow in cold weather, i figure i run somthing thinner for cold weather. any good tips for installing one of these bad boys? and is it worth it to go and get a ranchero or sky jacker steering damper? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

CAn you just use any shock for your steering stabalizer? I was thinking to replacing mine. Wich probably doens't even work anymore
 
i think a shock just absorbs shock, and dosnt stabilize, im just gunna buy the damn thing, i know mine is shot to hell, and is probly the factory one, so im just gunna goto
autozone and pick one up, or get a ranchero one, probly the autozone HD one if they have it there. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

I kinda like the look of duel steering stabilizers. But I'd like them in the heavy duty version. Is it hard to do. Mine is stock with the single unit. What all is need to convert to duel ???

You have to buy a kit. It comes with new brakets. One side goes on the axle tube and the other clamps onto the tie rod. I bent the lower one so bad that I could not steer on Lower Heldorado this last spring.

how stiff is a good steering stabilizer suposed to feel, i went outside and ubolted the side on the axle, it waas damn hard to move, i dont know if this is good or bad, how do you know if you have a bad one? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Hard is good (no comments please /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif). The easier it is to move, The less effect it will have on damping. Sounds like yours is fine.
