Steering Thump\"

When turning the wheel, in either direction, at low rpm's i get a thump sound from the front end. Is this the pump giving out? The fluid is at the correct level and it isn't any harder to turn the wheel when this happens. Any clues?

Re: Steering Thump\"

My Blazer's been doing the same thing off and on for over a year now. I had goodyear look at it when they rotated my tires and they said it was probably the steering box. Before I could try to fix it the thump went away. It comes back every once in a while. I would like to hear from someone whos knows more about this.

check your ball joints and all other front end parts. All though old trucks do like to kreek and thump just to make sure you're payin attention :)

Re: Steering Thump\"

That sounds like a cracked frame around the steeringbox. Common on these trucks with age and oversized tires. check out the ORD Steeringbraze reviu on the main page.

I get a sort of thump too from my front end.. kinda like it lunges and pops when it does. Only happens when I'm going really slow, like parking in a lot or something. My friend says it's from my lock rite in the rear.. supposedly pushing the front end around. But, I dunno if that's true.

Re: Steering Thump\"

I installed the ORD brace 2 weeks ago and the frame was not cracked, ball joints were replaced months ago and the truck might see 50 miles a month, so I know those aren't worn out. The thump also happens when turning the wheel while standing still. I'm still guessing the pump

Check the shackle bushings. Mine thumps also. When it is warmer I'm going to look at mine. I hope the problem will be an easy fix.
