I just installed crossover steering with hydro assist on my D60. The truck steers fine to the left but fights to turn right, eventually if feels as if it overcomes a sticking point and steers left. Everything is new, and well greased. All air has been purged out. Even with the ram disconnected the box does not want to steer the truck. However with the stock steering everything worked fine. Any idea what could be wrong ?

Thanks,

Is the motor on? Pushing the fluid through the ram adds a lot of resistance when the pump isn't running.

Otherwise, you've got kingpin preload, sector shaft adjustment, or maybe binding at the rag joint...

My money's on the sector shaft if you swapped it for a 2wd. Kingpin preload will give you a stiff spot when the knuckles are pointed forward but you should feel it in both directions as you reach that angle.

I thought this was an old thread at first. I remember someone else complaining of something similar, but with theirs the couldn't go one way at all. In the air everything work perfect. It ended up being that their draglink (pitman to arm) was too long and had to cut it down an inch. Worked perfect afterwords.

otherwise we may need some more info

With the ram off it acts the same. As for the drag link my TRE's are cranked all the way in. This has been an issue even before I added the hydro assist. I just thought because of the locker in the front it was causing the steering trouble. I added the crossover and locker at the same time. But even unlocking the hubs did not change anything, so I add the hydro assist and not much changed. That led me to install a new steering box and pump, still no change. I had also rebuilt the front end with new king pins, bushings, bearing ect. I'm missing something and I'm getting tired of throughing money at it. Thank for the input thus far.:thumb:

So what is left that you haven't replaced?

Sounds like it may be a pump issue but you have changed that already

Any bangs clanks or thuds?

I had really odd steering issues in my truck for a long time. Wound up being a bent spring pin from a ubolt that loosened up.

I asked because I had similar issues mine turned out to be the belt was slipping on the pump not giving it enough power to turn sometimes, I had a Hydro-boost also

No strange noises, it is a single v-belt, everything is new right down to the v-belt. I disconnected the hydro-boost to remove the extra burden on the pump.

You need to disconnect everything, even the hoses off the hoses off the ram, and cycle it. If it stops then it's a plumbing problem. Try cycling the ram with a rubber tipped air chuck too.
