Does anybody know of anyone that makes a steering wheel quick disconnect for a stock 77 blazer tilt column? After putting the door bars on the cage and getting the seats in, even with the tilt column, it got VERY tight getting into the truck. Borgeson and PSC are on my call list for this morning but I thought I'd see if anyone here had done this and may know where to get it.

Just with a quick search I've seen some universal disconnects on PSC's site. the say they are for a 3/4" shaft. that brings up another question, Does anybody know off hand what size shaft our columns are?

Grant makes a kit where you bolt the adapter to the column ( 36 spline ) and the hub to any 3 hole aftermarket type wheel ( Grant or cheapo ) , and its held on with a pin .

Looks easy enough .

I saw that one today too. The only problem is it doesn't list what size shaft it fits for only the spline count. The chevy columns are 11/16 at the splines on the shaft. and I can't find any that are for that size. The only ones listed places are for 5/8 or 3/4

I did find one on summit that was 11/16 but it's for a 5 bolt steering wheel, mines a 3.

Ok so maybe I'm measuring the wrong part?
Maybe this picture can help a little. So all the specs on these are listed for a 11/16", 5/8", 3/4" shaft. I've been measuring the spline section, but do you think they are talking about the small section of shaft that's exposed.

never got into it. Although the funds might allow for this to come back up pretty soon. I'll let you know. And if you try before I do let me know what you find.

Digging it way up....

Ever figure this one out? Same problem, over the bolsters, inbetween the cage, wheel tilted up, seat slid back, and I'm still contorting to get in and out.

nope never did anymore on this. I still get to slide my way in to my seat. I actually want to get a new setup fairly soon. After driving a truck with a removable, it was a night and day difference.

bringing this back up again, looking for a cheap (not the one for 136.00) adapter for the stock 88 steering collum to the 3 bolt steering wheel.

I'd love to have a removable wheel but I want to retain the OE steering wheel. I guess the Grant set up is the only option for me.

After I put bucket seats in my 77 GMC,I could barely fit my legs under the steering wheel..rather than re-engineer my seat mounts, which were ok as far as height and comfort for my 6'5" build,I decided to look at other steering wheels..the original was a large diameter one and it was cracked and crappy looking,so I started searching the junkyard for something smaller..
The steering colum on 73-87 trucks seem to stick out too far from the dash,in my opinion..but swapping a different colum in was too much work for me..

I found a steering wheel that was about 13" diameter off a late 80's chevy cavalier J2000,it fit perfectly and the collar even matched up with the diameter of the stock colum..horn worked,everything!..best part was the guy said "eh--5 bucks",when I asked how much they wanted for it..he said a lot of other brands of vehicles steering wheels will fit each other too,but didn't know off hand which ones would..(nice to know, your not limited to just GM )..

I still have the wheel and the steering colum ,I saved it when the truck got too rotted to be roadworthy..
I had no trouble getting in and out any more, and the steering effort was a bit harder with the smaller steering wheel, but I rather liked it feeling a bit harder to steer..
