I have my Dad's 74 Blazer now and have a problem with the steering wheel. He let it set for months at a time and kept a tarp over it in the shade. I got rid of most of the mold but the steering wheel is tacky like melted rubber. Any ideas on the fix or should I just get a new one?

not sure how to deal with mold and **** living here in the desert. but a steering wheel is easy enough to replace with a puller.

Agree on replacing. I pulled an old truck out from the local desert, sitting for 15+ years, no tarp etc, and the wheel was nasty to touch.

That is what I figured. I just didn't want to spend anymore, but don't have choice. Thanks.

If it's just crud - "Greased Lightning" will get it off. If the rubber is breaking down, the wheel is basically hosed. I know there is a company (POR-15? Eastwood?) selling a steering wheel restoration kit, but I would certainly scope the junkyards and eBay for another used one first. For a short-term fix, I suppose you could cruise one of the 7 or 8 junk aisles at your local Autozone/Advanced/Murrays for a cover.
