I was wondering when they went to the 88-93 style steering wheel in the older body-style Blazer and one ton trucks. Does anyone know? What diameter were they? Will they bolt onto the earlier models' steering column without an adapter? Someone told me that would work, but I'm not sure if it's true.

The later wheels bolt up fine. Astro's are another source, as are S10's I think.

cavalier steering wheel works too. i had one on my suburban, very soft and comfortable

This is all good to know, but does anyone know what the diameter is of these other wheels? The original one on my '85 is a 16" wheel. It's not in really bad shape (except that it leaves some black marks on your pants sometimes), but I wanted to put a club on it a while back and I couldn't find one big enough for the 16" wheel. I think 15" is all they would go to. I live in kind of a bad neighborhood and the truck has already been stolen once from the lady who sold it to me.

The club is a pretty worthless pile. It takes about 45 seconds longer to cut the steering wheel.

Your best bet is some kind of relay kill switch that takes power from the crank fuse.

Soune could post up the relay part number and wiring here and then you could just figure out where you want to put the kill swith.

That still won't keep them from breaking the glass, tearing up the steering column and trying to steal it. I had hoped that the club would be a visual deterrent when they looked through the window and discourage them from breaking into it.

I saw someone's build thread on here and they had some chains going around the frame and through the holes in the wheels so the wheels couldn't turn easily, but that seems like a lot of trouble to have to remove some heavy chains every time I want to drive the thing.

Another option would be to have some sort of ring on the floor of the cab with a short chain and padlock going up to the steering wheel, but that would be easy to saw through as well, unless it were hardened steel or something. I've seen something like that on some military vehicles.

As of now, when I park it at home I pull it right up to a dead end barrier beside my house and pull my daily driver truck up right behind it until it touches the 4X4's rear bumper. That way even if someone wanted to steal it, they would have to break into the other one to move it first. So far this has been effective at night while I'm at home. Someone broke into my neighbor's car that was parked beside it, but they didn't bother mine. My worry is what could happen while I'm at work and there is no truck behind the 4X4 to block it in.

You need one of the column guards, IF you can find them. It's visually obvious its there (so hopefully no broken glass), and without disassembling the column, you aren't going to be able to steer the thing, even if you hotwire it.

The later wheels are smaller diameter. I'd guess 14"? For me it obscures the lower left guages, while the stock big wheel didn't. I can measure tonight if I think about it. The club is worthless though.

So you have a smaller wheel. Does the truck seem to steer quicker or easier with the smaller wheel?

No, because the power steering on these things plus the ratio of the steering box is what leads to the steering feel.

It's maybe easier to manipulate if you have shorter arms, but other than looking/feeling better (to me) there isn't any other benefit.

Yeah I kind of wondered if the size would make it seem to steer any different. I kind of like the big one that's on there now because I can rest my arm on the door when the window's down and still easily reach the wheel. I don't know if I could do that on the smaller one as comfortably.

Instead of the club get the kind that goes around the brake pedal so it cant be used.It would take a while to cut either the brake or "club". AND a kill switch. Then you have a visual and mech deterrent. It would take so long they would move on to another car/truck.

Anything that goes around the wheel that is club/cane type of lock is worthless. They showed on a special that the theif just cuts the steering wheel and takes it off. It took them less then 30 seconds to cut through the wheel. :eek1:

Where do you find these? Do you know the name of them?

I measured my wheel today (with my arm lol) and it does appear to be right around 14 inches.

well i know about how easy the club can be removed but i had a type of club a while back that had 4 legs on it that would make it where the thief would have to cut almost the entire wheel off just to steal the truck and with a fuel switch/battery switch combo it would be a long time for the thief to be sitting in the truck exposed to the public to even waste the time on all of it and move on to another car to steal..

The one I tried that didn't fit was made like that. I liked the design. It was from Masterlock, I think. It just wouldn't stretch out far enough for the 16" wheel in my truck.
