steering wheel question

Just move out of the city. I am not sure if the keys will come out of my trucks.

I plan on doing that one day. I grew up in the country and I've been feeling like a fish out of water since I had to move to town about 10 years ago. It sucks, but life isn't perfect. I hate having to take all kinds of precautions to keep my stuff where it belongs.

AMEN to that

Since no one has mentioned it...the smaller style steering wheel is stock on the 89-91 trucks of our body style.

You could always get one of those adapters that goes on top of the steering column and allows you to easily remove the steering wheel. Kinda hard to steal a truck with no steering wheel.

Random thought but I've found USMC, NRA, and "I heart guns" stickers work well for criminal deterrent.

As funny as that is, I'm pretty sure that might actually make them think twice. They'll get a visual of you casually walking out of the house in a robe and a 12 guage draped over your arm just shaking your head :D

Make it an AK-47 with a .45 on my hip and you're close.

Actually...Michigan has the castle doctrine so they'd probably just get shot first.

I wanna say it was JP magazine or maybe OffRoad that had an article a few years back where they interviewed a few ex-cons with vehicle theft histories. Two of the three specifically mentioned NRA, military, and pro-gun stickers as a sign to move along.

Thanks for answering the other part of my original question. I knew I had seen a lot of 88-91s with that later wheel, and I didn't think that many people had swapped over to the newer wheel.

As for the stickers, that sounds like a good idea. I do have a 12 gauge, an AK style rifle and a .45 that I carry everywhere it's legal for me to do so. If I'm at home and awake, any bad guys in the vicinity are going to be to be in for a really bad time, but it's the times when I'm not there that could be a problem for me.

Did I mention that this truck was stolen from the PO right before I bought it? The only thing that kept the theives from taking it to the chop shop was that the tranny was leaking so bad that it ran out of fluid while they were fleeing the scene. The truck was recovered without a stereo or battery, so the lady took $1200 dollars for it because she didn't know what all was wrong with it.

I fixed the transmission and the steering column they tore up, as well as the back glass. I saw that it was really easy to steal these trucks. Any dumb kid could do it if they saw it done once, no matter how high they are.

One other question about swapping the 89+ wheels into an 88 K5. I see that the horn button is a different style, is there a way to wire up the newer style to the K5 column so the horn still works?

Take the horn parts from the donor vehicle. IIRC the plastic piece (the one that is around the wire, that you depress and turn to release from the column) and the wire length are the only two real differences.
