This is a simple question and I tried searching, but with over 1M posts in here now it's pretty hard to find stuff :doah:

Anyway, will the steering wheel from a new body style '89 K10 swap into a '73 K5? Not the whole column, just the wheel. I could swap the column if I had to, but would rather just swap wheels if it's doable.

Your not limited to GM steering wheels either--at the junkyard,we found out many other makes of vehicles share the same splines and collar diameter and can be adapted to be used on a GM product...
I put a smaller wheel off a 90's Chevy Cavalier wagon in my 77 GMC so my legs didn't rub against the steering wheel when I installed a pair of bucket seats from a Mercury Topaz into it!..

Here is a 1975 I bought.

...and here it is swapped exactly like you were asking.

Thanks everyone. Good to know! I have a certain hatred for the small racing style steering wheels with the circular slots in them (which is what my truck came with). I want to feel like I'm driving a truck, not Billy Bob's '83 Camaro.

Or Adams Blazer. :D

I had an '83 Camaro, and I hate those silly aftermarket steering wheels too....

Follow-up question. Any links to forum posts or tech articles for doing this? I have swapped many columns but never just the wheel. I am usually pretty good at figuring things out myself, but any information would be great. Is it just a matter of renting a steering wheel puller from AZ and going to town? And is the install just the reverse of the removal?

Great...thanks Martin. Figured it couldn't be too hard if every halfwit Indiana poser around here has swapped them out on their lifted 2wd F150.
