I want to put the steering wheel back to factory as the po had a custom one which I dont care for. In the 89-91 Blazer/Suburbans there is an option for a "sport" steering wheel which is a 4 spoke wheel as the others are 2 spoke versions. The sport version came in my truck factory. It was meant to compliment the redesigned front end of the 88 and up pickups.

So anyhow here is my question...I can't find a part for the specific 89-91 sport steering wheel for the Blazer/Suburban trucks...but I can find the 88-94 sport steering wheel for the full size pickups (GM part #16759292). The steering wheels are identical as far as looks but the steering columns they attach to are different. Will this steering wheel work or has anyone ever modified it to do so? I cant find the exact part at any of the usual places. Any ideas?

That steering wheel should work just fine on your column.

I believe the brotherhood over the dealership on this one as I think it would fit too. :waytogo:

The dealership said they have different part numbers and that led them to believe that it would not fit my application. I am just going to purchase the part and worst case scenario I can return it.

How hard is it to change the steering wheel? Do I need special tools? Is it a good idea to get an allignment first and then mount the steering wheel to get it straight? I hate the look of a crooked steering wheel when you are cruising straight on the freeway.

If it were me id do the wheel before the alignment, just make sure you get it all as close to center first, even if you are wrong by a spline or 2 its easy to pull it back off and re-clock it to where it is desired. As for the tools, a steering wheel puller is all you should need, autozone and the like rent them.

It will fit,buy a puller from the auto parts store, they're inexpensive and you'll use it again.

the steering wheel on my old 89 K2500 had a mark on the wheel and on the shaft in the column to get it lined up correctly.
