steering wheel turned 180 degrees after articulation

I would check the three studs where the steering arm mounts to the knuckle as well. Sometimes those nuts can come loose and let those studs break when you do some big time articulation type stuff. That happened to me and the whole arm was moving around a little when I would try to steer. One broken stud just caused the wheel to be pointed a little in one direction or the other (it would change from time to time) but eventually a second one broke and then the truck would only turn about 1/4 of the amount it was supposed to in either direction. The wheel turned fine.

How is your steering lock to lock? Even number of turns? Maybe the sleeve on your new drag link slipped. I always suspect the things I've replaced/worked on/ modified lately to be the cause of my problems. Also check to make sure the pinch bolt that holds the pitman arm on the steering box is tight. I would have someone else turn the wheel back and forth while I watched from underneath and looked for anything fishy going on.

Do you still have the stock style steering shaft? Check the rag joint. I don't know if it could do this though.

I went by Jeff's house yesterday to help with the Dana 60 and while I was there we looked at the suburban steering.
A very odd thing was happening while the wheel was being turned back and forth as it was parked there. The leaf spring seemed to be wrapping up towards the front of the truck as it was turned one of the directions.
I have not ever seen this for myself as I haven't had anyone else to turn the steering while I watched on any of my own trucks.
This suburban has some BIG tires on it so there is added pressure on everything.

One other thing was the dropped drag link seemed to rock back and forth as he was cranking to wheel lock to lock. That didn't seem right to me but I am not sure what you can do about that.

You may have a broken center pin on the springs on that side. That can cause all kinds of weird stuff to happen.

is the truck sagging on only one side? It seemed like before I had crossover (8 years ago?) everytime I went and flogged on my K5 the truck would lean to one side or the other and the steering wheel would be in a different position. There wasn't any more play because of it, the steering wheel was just in a different spot. That was just bumpsteer showing it's ugly face without having to hit a bump! Drivers side sitting higher, steering wheel would turn left, drivers side sitting lower, steering wheel would turn right.

No sagging on the rig at all. It sits even at all 4 corners. I'm in the garage no working on the D60 now. I have no idea what it could be. Every bolt is tight and all parts are where they should be. Weird. Shouldn't be a problem when I get the 60 in there!

Good luck. I've about had it with my 1/2 ton ball joint axles too...especially the steering.

That's some funny **** right there. Timestamp. Now I just pictured you. Not a pretty sight!
Funny. Though. 3:54am

What the heck are you guys talking about out there in Bakersfield?:dunno: I had a woman from Bakersfield steal my identity and run up a big T-Mobile bill once. Maybe you guys had something to do with that...:D

I didn't know her and I've never been to Bakersfield or California at all. Apparently she did have (or used) the same last name as me and used it to open a T-Mobile account at a Radio Shack in Bakersfield. I got hounded by a collection agency that told me it would be in my best interest to go ahead and pay the $1,500 that was owed on the account. They had my social security number and everything. Of course I didn't pay but instead called Equifax and put a fraud alert on my accounts. My credit report didn't show any other fraudulent activity thank goodness. Next I called the Bakersfield P.D. and tried to give them an adress that I had found for the woman off the internet and the address and phone number of the Radio Shack. They told me to fill out a report with my sheriff's office where I live, so I did. Anyway, to make a long story short, I finally got it resolved after it showed up on my credit report two years later and almost prevented me from buying my house. Equifax and Trans-Union took it off their reports, but Experian never would. I called up T-Mobile and e-mailed them and threatened to sue them because they had apparently turned my name back in to the collection agency. They finally mailed me back and apoligized for their error. To this day, I still don't know if the woman in Bakersfield actually used my info or if it was T-Mobile that went after me. I just hope I don't ever have any more trouble like that. I was about ready to drive out to Cali and find the woman myself. (This was back when gas was still under $2 per gallon. Now it would take more than $1500 to drive or fly out there and back.)

That sucks, Sorry that happened. Glad everything finaly worked out for ya. Hey, I know some people that know some people, If you know what I meen, that can take care of problems somebody might have!! Let me know!!

Thanks. I'll keep that in mind.:wink1:

Has anyone thought to check the rear end and see if everything back there is where it's supposed to be? If the rear end is off the center pin on one side it will cause the axle to be crooked and the steering wheel will be off center to correct.
