Think that's done in the steering box. The box is adjustable, but I'm thinking that if you can't feel it, the box is shot.

Maybe someone touched the adjustment on the box . You aren't supposed to touch it , it can mess up the return to center instead of making any improvements .

crap, steering felt lose. a friend said i could just tighten the box up. damit

Have the alignment checked. If your caster adjustments are off, the steering wheel won't return to center.

If this happened after you tightened your box, you tightened it too much, and it is binding.

dont forget the biggest thing of all. binding up parts. jack up axle and remove tie rod ends from knucles and then turn the tires. see if the ball joints are sticking and frezzing bad.

i have seen this lots of times.

then check the rest of the system when off. check all the tie rods for movement and not sticking .

A very small amount of play can be removed by adjusting the box, but it will have an effect on the return to center. If it is binding that bad, and you adjusted it, it will need to be replaced. The box lasts a long time, but they wear just like everything else on our vehicles.

i got the same problem, really sloppy as well..i have another box, don't know hwo to test it out before installing it though..

Free play in the steering wheel should not be adjusted by messing with the lash adjuster. This is to set the preload in the steering gear. If you don’t know what you are doing here I suggest that you leave it alone.
