steering

I bought a 83 Jimmy with a six inch lift but the PO never adjusted the steering geometry. So as i am looking around i see that you can get a raised pitman arm, drop drag link, or a drop steering arm. So of these choices is there a benifit to one or the other besides price? It has a 6 inch lift, 35" at's right now. Oh i am not doing crossover steering on it yet

For a 6" lift I would use a raised steering arm.

dont buy a drop link. you will throw it out in less than 2 weeks. thay suck. drop arm for box or raised arm for axle. any more lift then crossover setup. but thats a whole new thread there.

another question

what is the best way to get the cones out of the pitman arm? The PO tried a chisel

My $.02............oil soaking..................then heat, lots of it...............then the BFH!

I live in the rust belt and have never used heat or penetrating oil. If you use heat you must like to replace ball joints, because it will burn the rubber boots off. Jack up the truck, take off the tire, set the axle on a jackstand neer the knuckle. Just a 32 ounce ball peen hammer, just don't swing it like a sissy. You hit down on the steering arm real hard, on the side opposite of the cone washers.

like he said but i use a 4lb hammer and hit the end of it . the shock pops them out. but leave the nuts on in case thay try to pop out and go flying.

well the pitman arm is off but I broke the front stud off in the steering knuckle is that screewed in or pressed in? Should I try to drill it and get it out or just start looking for another knuckle

I have never actually removed any of the studs, but I'm fairly certain that they are threaded in.

they sure are!!!!! well got it out drilled a hole down it and got a nice easy out and did a bunch of tapping and drilling and out it came. woohooo
