well back in june i got my lift and tires put on, and i do gotta say at 6ft even its kinda hard to get into the ol blazer.

now from the driver side its easy to grab the steering wheel and jump and slide into the seat, but from the pass side, its extremely hard.

well i have been in lousiana since i lifted it and havent but much thought into it but in sept my brother gets married and its gonna be a bitch to get in out of with a tux on and my gf in a dress.

so im needing steps that are rock friendly, rock sliders seem like the best choice but do they make any that have a good type of step on it along with maximum protection?

also for a handle i was thinking about putting some oh **** grab handles on the inside of the cab, what would yall recommend and should i also put a handle on the outside? like those big chrome handles?

thanks in advance. its an 86 k5 by the way

I don't have any info for you on steps or handles, but using the steering wheel as a handle will loosen it up in a hurry if it is a tilt with no locktite. Using the seat as a handle will crack the floor near the seat mounts.

Edit: the PO of my truck discovered the points above for me. :doah:

I have...er had a set of Carr steps on my blazer but at blazerfest this year i grenaded my passenger side step. I will be building some rock sliders in the near future for mine.

chain ladder. What ive seen done, and its pretty smart, is a single rung "rope" ladder mounted to the rocker under the door. The "rope" part is made of chain, and either rubber coated, or with a rubber hose around it. The hose keeps it from rattling as you drive and causing insanity. but the step is flexible enough to give way when wheeling and not cost you any ground clearance. I thought about doing that on my rig once the lift and tires are on, but i think i like the idea of the gratouitous booty grab as i help girls into the truck ;)

yeah thats one of the reasons why im trying to get steps and such so i dont wear it out.

what about the step off of a motor grader. Instead of chain it uses really thick rubber belt. It holds some what rigid under a person's weight, but easily moves for a solid object. I have not tried it, but if I had the need I would definately give it a go.

I've seen the chains done on a few rigs here. Seems to work OK. I'll be doing that soon when I get my truck done.

As for the handle, I was thinking of a leather loop strap using the seatbelt mount inside the cab. Have it long enough to reach while standing on the ground.

im not really diggn the chain idea just because im also wanting in incorporate decent looks into it, since it is my wheeler and weekend out on the town truck also

me personally the chain or rope step sounds cool just kinda tacky.

thanks for the ideas so far

also, they sell kits to do this, but if you wanted to rig it up yourself....

get yourself two of these (one for either side)

attach the top frame to the truck, and rig some way to either mechanically or electronically retract the step. when it folds out, you step in, and when it folds in it tucks up flat against the bottom of the truck. You could even install rock sliders under the rockers to protect it. Installed in such a way that the step folds out from behind the rock slider or something.

solves the issue of needing a step, keeping ground clerance, and looking good doing it. :thumb:
